Former US president Donald Trump claims he can declassify top secret documents just ‘by thinking about it’
Donald Trump came very close to firing his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner from the White House via a tweet, a new book has claimed.
According to an early copy of New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s new book obtained by CNN, the 45th president was seconds away from firing off a tweet that would’ve alerted his kin about the termination of their employment.
Both Ivanka and Kushner were working as senior White House aides and the former president – who reportedly grew tired of his son-in-law’s presence and described him as sounding “like a child” – only decided not to fire them because his then-chief of staff John Kelly and then-White House counsel Don McGahn warned against it.
Meanwhile, the former president’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump has come under fire for posting a video of her son outside on a toy car as Hurricane Ian hits Florida.
The hurricane also caused the Jan 6 House select committee to postpone Wednesday’s supposed final public hearing allowing committee member Rep Stephanie Murphy to respond to matters in her Florida district.
Why was the final Jan 6 committee hearing postponed?
The House January 6 select committee postponed the hearing scheduled for Wednesday on account of Hurricane Ian, The Independent learned on Tuesday.
A source with knowledge of the panel’s internal deliberations said the postponement of what would be the committee’s ninth public session will allow one of the nine select committee members, Representative Stephanie Murphy, to tend to any matters that arise in her Florida district due to the approaching storm.
