If you’ve been wondering why Tom Holland has been missing from social media recently, he’s finally explaining things.
The spider man actor just revealed that he’s actually been on a social media break — and it’s all about his mental health.
In a video posted to Instagram, Tom explained that he realized he needed to take a step back from social media when it began affecting his real life.
“I have taken a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming,” Tom said.
He continued, “I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online.”
Tom added that, ultimately, “it’s very detrimental to [his] mental state,” so he deleted the app.
As for his decision to briefly return, Tom shared that it all had to do with his charity, the Brothers Trust.
In the video, Tom explained that they’ve recently helped support Stem4, a UK-based teen mental health charity that provides educational tools like apps, conferences, and other resources.
“There is an awful stigma against mental health, and I know that asking for help and seeking help isn’t something we should be ashamed of, but it is something that is much easier said than done,” Tom said, adding, “So Hopefully these apps can be your first steps towards being happier and healthier.”
