“If There’s One Thing Herschel Walker Knows, It’s Lying”: Late-Night TV Tackles Candidate’s Abortion Scandal

Anti-abortion Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker, who allegedly paid for a woman’s abortion in 2009 as reported by the Daily Beast, was the talk of late-night TV on Tuesday night.

“The former girlfriend of Republican Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker claimed in a new interview that Walker paid for her to get an abortion in 2009,” late night‘s Seth Meyers began. “And the only way that will hurt him with Republicans is if some of that money went to pay down her student loans from her.”

According to the anonymous woman who was involved with Walker, he provided her with a signed $700 check to pay for the abortion and sent a get-well card afterward. “Imagine being so stupid you write a check for an abortion you want to keep secret,” Jimmy Kimmel quipped during his monologue. “And that card, if you’re wondering where you can even get a card like that, you can find them right next to the ‘dads and grads’ section at CVS.”

Trevor Noah, who recently announced his planned departure as host of The Daily Show, doubled down on the apparently damning evidence. “I mean, this woman says that she has a receipt, a check, and a get-well card that he signed,” Noah said. “The only way there could be more of a paper trail is if he bought a souvenir T-shirt from the abortion clinic’s gift shop.”

Walker, who is running against incumbent Democratic senator Raphael Warnock, went on the defensive with a Fox News appearance. He denied the allegations while speaking with Sean Hannity, whom The Late Show‘s Stephen Colbert called “the most effective form of birth control known to man.” Colbert then premiered a sketch labeled “Hallmark Introduces: The Herschel Walker Collection,” skewering his get-well card gesture from him. Colbert noted that Walker called the report “a flat-out lie,” with the host adding, “if there’s one thing Herschel Walker knows, it’s lying, because he has done a ton of it.”
